According to the public arts organisation The Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, this is the first-ever nationwide celebration of images and the individuals who create them. Illustration Communicates With Everyone
Everybody connects with illustrations uniquely. From a very young age, illustration is prevalent in the first books we are taught to read, and even as adults, illustration possesses a special capacity to convey ideas in a manner that is impossible with words alone. As it is laced through most milestones of our lives, honouring the beautiful gift of illustration makes sense. Therefore, the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration has planned a special day devoted to all things related to illustration in honour of their significance and the artists who drew them.
What Will National Illustration Day Entail?
National Illustration Day will be the first in the United Kingdom. This event will take place in classrooms nationwide and be streamed live online under the hashtag #NationalIllustrationDay, highlighting beloved and inspirational illustrations from picture books, posters, symbols, and more.
Online participation will be encouraged by asking people to share their best illustrations. With free internet resources, educational institutions such as libraries, schools, and homeschools will inspire kids to celebrate the medium. These will assist aspiring illustrators in realising their concepts as paintings, sculptures, drawings, or even digital creations.
After that, the illustrated festivities will be shared in a unique digital gallery, giving future generations a glimpse into the minds of young people throughout the UK in 2023 regarding the event.
There will also be a unique National Illustration Day pop-up in the Angel Central shopping complex in Islington, where the Quentin Blake complex is creating a new cultural attraction that will open in 2025. This will inspire people to try illustrating by offering drop-in sessions on the day.
