Herzog & de Meuron
14 July – 15 October 2023 – The Gabrielle Jungels-Winkler Galleries – Burlington Gardens
Discover the inner workings of one of the most renowned architectural firms in the world by peeking behind the curtain at Herzog & de Meuron.
The Swiss firm has been challenging our perceptions of what architecture can be for more than 40 years. The nature of buildings, from homes to hospitals, has been redesigned. Additionally, they have created projects like the Tate Modern, Laban Dance Centre, Elbphilharmonie, and M+ that have completely changed cities.
You can learn more about Herzog & de Meuron’s design process through this exhibition, which showcases 400 items from their work. Walk through life-sized architectural mock-ups, explore their open archive shelves, sit on their newest furniture design, and utilise augmented reality to experience a new children’s hospital in Zurich.
Marina Abramović
23 September 2023 – 1 January 2024 – Main Galleries – Burlington House
Marina Abramovic has been captivating audiences for 50 years by testing the limits of both her body and mind. As a performance artist, Marina Abramovic has attracted praise from all around the world. She has repeatedly pushed the boundaries of her own physical and mental stamina, putting herself through exhaustion, agony, and even potential death.
Abramovic reportedly had a loaded gun pressed to her head after inviting viewers to freely interact with her in one of her earliest works, Rhythm 0. In her subsequent piece, The House with the Ocean View, the artist spent 12 days living in a house built in a gallery. The event, held in the wake of the 9/11 catastrophe, asked viewers to observe and participate in the ordinary act of living.
Important events from Abramovic’s career are highlighted in this exhibition using arts such as, sculpture, video, installation, and performance.
Impressionists on Paper: Degas to Toulouse-Lautrec

Van Gogh, Degas, Cézanne, and Renoir – their arts are well known, but their innovative works on paper are the focus of this ground-breaking exhibition.
Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists fundamentally altered the future course of art in the maelstrom of modernity that was late 19th-century France. Around 70 pieces on paper by prominent Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters are included in this comprehensive show, whose inventiveness would ultimately pave the way for succeeding movements like Abstract Expressionism.
