Mini Moderns – Patterns With Heart
Mini Moderns is an interiors company that specialises in applied pattern across various products, including fabrics, wallpaper, pillows, carpets, and homeware. It was founded in 2006 by London-based designers Keith Stephenson and Mark Hampshire. The primary collection was purchased by Heal’s, and the brand is still growing, with sales occurring both online and through carefully chosen stockists worldwide.
Design Inspiration
The company have said their design inspirations span from books to childhood recollections to old toys and British textiles from the mid-20th century. Travel also fueled inspiration for the duo. Mini Moderns strive to make as much as they can here in the UK, with all of their wallpaper, fabrics, pillows, tea towels, and bags produced in the UK by people they have a history of working with. By reducing the number of trips a product must take before it reaches the customer, production in the UK also helps to reduce their carbon footprint.
Additionally, Mini Moderns takes on a variety of commissions. Recent partnerships with the Courtauld Gallery, Southbank Centre, and London Transport Museum Shop are just a few examples.
Homeware With a Difference
As well as wallpaper, carpets and fabrics, Mini Moderns make beautifully designed and unique homeware items. This Whitby Mini Moderns Enamel Kettle has a distinctive design inspired by the soothing ambience of the seashore, which laps gently against Whitby’s shoreline in North Yorkshire, England. The coastal scene is completed by illustrated boats and seagulls, creating a stunning kitchen appliance that will stand out on store shelves. The perfect gift for any occasion, or why not treat yourself?
This Mini Moderns Moordale Storage Jar will brighten up any kitchen or dining room. Northern England’s Yorkshire Moors and Dales, where designers Keith and Mark spent their formative years, inspired the idyllic vistas shown on the Moordale storage jar. A row of Douglas fir trees that are emblematic of the North Yorkshire Moors is included in the design, along with two natural attractions, the Cow and Calf and the Raspberry Topping. The storage container adds a touch of country charm to the home. These are just some examples of the captivating designs created by Mini Moderns.
